Structural & Computational Biology

Figura 1

The Structural and Computational Biology Programme at the IRB Barcelona brings together researchers with the common aim of studying biological processes from a structural viewpoint.  Biological macromolecules, such as proteins and nucleic acids, are the main players in the living cell and knowledge of their three-dimensional structure and the way they interact with each other contributes to our understanding how the cell machinery functions. Furthermore, the enormous amount of genomic and structural information available requires the use of computational tools to attain a synthetic perspective of the mechanisms, interplay and networks underlying cell action.

At present, the Programme includes research groups specialised in X-ray crystallography, NMR and other biophysical techniques, as well as bio-computation. State-of-the-art technological facilities are available for research activities in all these fields.
